Precision M3800 Won't Power-UP

For the past week my M3800 has not been powering-up consistently.  I noticed that the USB port that the Logitec mouse transmitter was plugged into was dead and the touch screen was not working.  The power-on button would light and the back-lit keyboard would light but the screen remained black.  I Googled this problem and found a disturbing number of users had similar issues.  I spent an hour and 20 minutes on the phone to Dell Tech Support and the conclusion was that a replacement motherboard was the only solution.  The quote from DELL CBS Team was $2,906.20 to replace the motherboard which had a 90 day warranty.  Are they kidding...

There were many posts on the DELL forums where users had had their motherboads replaced 2 or 3 times which would suggest that the replacement motherboards were also faulty.   As the machine is out of warranty I can't risk spending almost $3,000 on a replacement motherboard and have the same problem a few months later after the warranty has expired.

THIS IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH DELL!!

An update on my original post

After I rejected the first quote Dell CBS sharpened up their pencils and knocked $1000 off.  It's annoying to be treated like a complete idiot so I fired-off an email to Dell with links the several of the posts from this forum.  It worked!  Dell withdrew the quotes and agreed to supply a new motherboard free of charge subject to a A$165 installation charge.

Needless to say, I'm happy with the end result - my M3800 is working perfectly again.  In the end Dell did the right thing by me but under the circumstances, they should offered a free replacement from Day-1.

The boards run between $300-400 depending on the CPU;  it would take a shop no more than an hour to replace the board, meaning between $75-125 in labor.

You can easily find a 1-year parts warranty on the board, meaning the total cost would be in the $500 range.

Even a warranty extension at this point for one year would cost about that.
