Precision M4600 touchpad buttons
Some help needed before I go crazy -
I have a two month old M4600. It has six buttons around the touchpad - three above and three below. The only buttons that work are bottom left and right. I've had an engineer call twice now with a replacement palm rest but on the second visit was told by a Dell engineer over the phone that the buttons are dummies. Is this true and am I being led up the garden path?

Assuming the keys are no "dummies" I would open Dell's touchpad software and check if there are any settings to disable or enable those keys! If you open the software you should be given a graphical display of the touchpad including all keys that are attached to it - it's just an idea - I am not familiar with your system......

I've been setting users up with Dell laptops since 2003. The ones that have 6 buttons would most likely be ones where there was not only a touchpad and the buttons associated with that but also one of those tiny joystick like cursor controllers located in the center of the keyboard. The latter could be controlled with say, your forefinger while clicking the upper-most buttons with a thumb.
Like the other poster said, look in control panel--mouse and see if there is Dell specific software for the mouse/touchpad. There should be a radio button to enable/disable each. I sometimes have to turn these off for users who are blind and have no need for them to be moving the focus of the cursor around.
