Problems getting driver to work

Question

Hello. I just got my new Inspiron about 2 days ago and i installed my XP pro that i just got from Bestbuy. Well I did a complete refomat and just like always everything went well. But now when i try to install my SB HD sound card driver it said theres nothing there for it to install on. ALso it wont let me get all the way threw on my windows updates. It get into number 6 and it hangs but most of it wont show that there is a SB card with no driver so i just came here to ask. IF i knew it would be this big of a pain in the neck i wouldnt of put pro on. Please help

You must first install the sigmentel drivers and then overlay the soundblaster software.. If you had asked dell for a reinstallation cd the windows media center edition is a glorified windows xp pro... If you have home then I might see maybe purchaseing.. ward, you are right but there is another step.

Seal, after you do an OS installation on an Inspiron, you should next install Dell Notebook System Software (find it under System & Configuration Utilities), then Intel Mobile Chipset (find under Chipset), then the audio and other drivers. Find all of these on your downloads page. (I'd put in a link here to your page but I don't see your model name.)

[Tip from rpilT2005: If still having problems installing the audio driver, check in the Device Manager for a "PCI Device" with a yellow question mark next to it, under the "System Devices" grouping. Hit 'update driver' on that one, and it should find a driver.]

You might try installing the system software and chipset now and it will probably work, but if not you should redo the OS install and put everything else in in order.

Then as ward said make sure the Sigmatel integrated audio is working before installing the Creative software.

Ok i tryed to install the sigma tel Audio driver first but it just came up with a window saying configuring Sigmatel Audio driver and applications 'this system does not support the driver you are attempting to install

As I said, you might have to redo the entire OS install if you are still having problems.
