Re-intalling windows on XPS 1530
Hey guys,
I hope this is the appropriate place to post my issue. I just finished getting off the phone with tech support (after a ridiculously long call of almost two hours, not counting the hold time) and was instructed to re-install Windows from the disc that came with my laptop. Fine. Except the drivers for the touchpad, the ethernet card, the wireless card, and the NVIDIA graphics card aren't working. Not so fine. While I've been able to download the drivers for the XPS, the touchpad driver and the NVIDIA driver don't install properly. Also, every time I reboot my system, the screen resolution drops down to 800x600.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? This is my first time trying to reinstall windows on the XPS and I'm getting frustrated as hell. I'm used to doing these re-installations on other PCs and having the system go back to the same exact specs it had coming out of the box. (Even the quick-menu bar that's supposed to be running across the top of the screen is missing, and while that's something I can deal with as opposed to the touchpad and graphic card issues, the dissappearance is still annoying.)
If anyone has any tips/suggestions, I'd really appreciate it!

Driver discs are not supplied - ordinarily the quick restore (F8 before WIndows loads) is used, not a the DVD. You can download all the necessary drivers using another system from support.dell.com.

Before you install any other drivers, be sure you have installed the Dell notebook system software and the chipset driver. Then reboot and install all the other drivers.

Thanks so much, ejn63. I was told nothing about notebook system software or the chipset, which probably explains the headache I'm going through! Should I have received those discs with the XPS? The only ones that came in my welcome packet were the Windows installation DVD, the driver for the webcam, McAfee trialware, and Roxio.
