reinstalling XP software

Question

My operating system is having major problems and i feel it corrupt and needs to be reinstalled.  I am running XP Pro and am wondering if the old DOS command ZZTOP still works?  This was the command on old Windows 98 to put the harddrive back to the condition it was shipped with.  If this command doesn't work, what is the new method for 'snapping back' the software?

If you wish to perform a quick reinstallation of XP without having it affecting any other programs you may have installed or your user settings, just run 'I386\WINNT32.EXE /unattend' from your original installation CD. I hate to pop your bubble, but there has never been or ever will be a DOS command called 'ZZTOP'. Your best option is to backup your data, boot from the XP CD, format the partition, and reinstall XP and all of your applications. Reinstall all of your drivers. Then migrate all of your data back. If you are really knowledgable you could pick through windows and repair / replace all corupted files and registry entries, but after the statement about ZZTOP DOS command I think you should opt for a clean install. Maybe ZZTOP was a special command used by a PC manufacturer for system restore... Dell doesn't make system restore disk like this...

You can use System Restore. On your program files list go to Accessories, System Tools. You get a choice of restore points. I just used it and ended up doing a clean install anyway because it left useless files all over my machine.
