How do I reset the hard drive on an inviron 1545?

Unplug the system, remove the battery, undo the two screws, slide out the hard drive and reconnect it.
The service manual is here:

If the drive is then still not found, it's toast - you'll need to replace it.
It tells me " Internal hard disk drive not found. To resolve this issue, try to reset the hard drive."
Physically, or the operating system?
