Resolution change when lid closes and opens??

This is extremely annoying, but whenever i close the lid of my Inspiron 9100, and reopen it, it seems as if the resolution changed when its closed because my icons are all over the place and my AOL instant messanger moves and shrinks. Is there anyway to set up so that this will not happen so everything will be exactly where it should be and in the same size?
