Reverberating sound
I have a Dell Inspiron N5110 laptop. Today I find that when I increase the volume I get an increasingly loud sound like feedback or a reverberating sound. I may have changed some setting somethere but do not know what it might have been. Can someone help?

Jimco,
I never got an e-mail notification of your reply. But, I tried the exact fix you suggested before I saw your post and it worked. The internal mic was playing back through the speakers. Correcting that solved the feedback but there was still a sort of echo sound. I did go to Device Manager and delete the driver and that fixed everything. Wish I had seen your post. It wold have saved a little time but I did learn something doing it on my own. Thanks for your reply.

Make sure that the internal mic is not playing back through the speakers. Open the Recording tab of the Sound properties (right click on the audio icon on the taskbar and click Recording Devices). Select the internal mic and click the Properties button. Select the Listen tab and UN-check the listen box.
You can reset the sound configuration to the default settings by re-installing the audio driver. Go to the Device Manager (type devmgmt.msc in the search box). Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "IDT High Definition Audio". Select to Uninstall the driver. Do NOT check the box to delete the driver files. Reboot the laptop and Windows will reinstall the driver with its default settings.

The forum was undergoing some updates for a couple of weeks and the notifications got all messed up and it still isn't back to normal.
Anyway glad you got it working and thanks for the feedback.
