Scratches appearing

I bought this M14XR2 laptop about 4 months ago in preparation for running CAD programs in college, so I need this computer to stay with me for a couple years. I noticed some scratches about a month ago, but I figured I must have not been careful enough with it. However, the scratches appear to be spreading horizontally, and I've noticed they seem to match up exactly in place with ridges on the keyboard. Am I doing something wrong, or does this laptop have a problem with scratching itself? The scratches have grown to the point where a few are highly visible no matter what I am doing on the computer. I would like to find some way f removing them.

Be sure they're really scratches - the could just be dust or finger oil from the keyboard.  If so they'll wipe clean with a slightly damp cloth.

If these are scratches on the screen, the only way to fix the problem is to replace the screen.  To prevent further issues, simply put a piece of soft paper towel over the keyboard before you close the screen.

I've tried rubbing it- they're definitely scratches. So the design of the laptop actually has the screen touching the keyboard? That seems problematic. I'm still within less than 6 months of buying the thing- can I get the screen replaced as part of a warranty, or do I have to pay out of pocket for that?

Now, not only are the scratches still growing, but I'm also having charging issues. The laptop refuses to recognize the charger, and will not charge at all, even if the computer is turned off and plugged in. It won't charge more than 7% max power. I have to stay plugged in at all times to use it.

I understand that computers eventually deteriorate, but this thing is just six months old. I am not happy that I spent over 2000 dollars on a laptop that destroys itself just a few months after the return period expires. I still have the complete care period, so maybe this can be fixed, but if this is a problem inherent in the computer model, I would like a full refund.

You won't get a refund.  The power problem will be covered under warranty - call for repair.

The screen scratches will likely be deemed cosmetic damage that neither the warranty nor the complete care policy will cover (cosmetic issues aren't covered at all).

But the laptop scratched itself up- that's just a plain design flaw. I can always see the scratches, they're across the screen at about the halfway mark. Imagine buying a TV, but some guy with a steak knife made a gash across the entire screen. That's not a cosmetic problem- it's not like a screen is optional. I'd understand labeling scratches to the outside of the laptop as cosmetic damage, but to the actual screen? I want to see what's on my screen, and I paid about 2000 dollars to do so. It's beginning to sound like I seriously overpaid. I'm not asking for the thing to be re-engineered, I just the battery fixed and the screen replaced. Then I could put some sort of screen protector on it, or bumpers on it so it doesn't scratch itself against the keyboard.

Honestly, how was that design flaw never corrected? For the screen to actually come in contact with the ridges on the keyboard? If I can't get a refund, I would at least like to have a screen that looks like any other laptop would have after 6 months- unscratched. Then I can try some DIY solution with cut-up tires and glue, so I might be able to still be proud of this thing after a single year of owning it.

I have the identical problem with my Dell Inspiron. All I can say is that I'm glad I'm not the only one who has experienced this problem. Yes, I believe it's a design flaw that the monitor touches the keyboard that Dell should correct and that they should replace the monitor for free because it's their error!
