Screen freezes with Doom3

Shortly after starting the game "Doom3", the display freezes. There is nothing left to be done, except reboot the system. Has anybody a clue of what might help to get rid of this problem?

I downloaded and installed Patch 1.1 for the game. I also have installed the latest video driver for my system. All this didn't help really. When the screen freezes, I simply can press any button or combination of buttons - nothing happens anymore. There is also now sound anymore. I have to press the power button for a short while, then the computer reboots.

Have you tried the omega drivers at omegadrivers.net? A lot of people with the 9700 cards have had to resort to theese drivers and have plenty good results. You can always go back to the dell drivers if it dosnt help. After you download the drivers from omegadrivers.net make sure you uninstall evrything ati related from your controll panel first then install the omega drivers. good luck

Frank, I have the exact same system as you, and it has the exact same problem.  I've installed the DNA 3.5.4.12 drivers, which includes ATI Catalyst v4.12 drivers, but it hasn't helped at all.

I guess I will try the omega drivers, but I'm not hopeful because they are probably pretty much the same as the DNA drivers.

Thanks for your help, Jeff!

Don't feel too bad about it; the XPS is a great machine.
