Serial Com1 on notebooks

Hello

I am trying to connect a device with RS232 interface to the COM1 serial interface and did not get a connection.

When I try to send a message with Hypertherminal, I get the error message, that another device is using COM1, but I can not find it. The internal modem seems to use COM3.

Help would be highly appreciated.

Schmid,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
It is more then likely another program using COM1.
Programs that come with PDAs, MP3 players, and other such devices have a tendency to keep polling the serial port.
If you have installed any programs for such devices, uninstall the program and see if the serial port works.
Other programs like "Desktop Terminals or Remote Management" software can also tie up the serial port.
Some examples of such software are, Active Sync, Funk Proxy, Laplink Gold, PC Anywhere, Net Meting.
Try stopping all background programs and applications using MSCONFIG if you have Win98,WinME, or WinXP.
