In a nutshell, it enables you to use a mobile SIM card, to you can have an internet connection - wherever you are, whilst you're on the move :emotion-5:

You can only use it in conjunction with a WWAN card and subscription to a GSM-GPRS/HSPDA cell service (in the US, that's AT&T or T-mobile).

The SIM card by itself is not useable.

No.  You need a card supported by whichever carrier your contract is with.

The slot by itself is useless - you MUST have a WWAN card supported by your cell internet provider to use it.
