Software & Gaming Inspiron 6000

I have just purchased my new 6000 2 days ago and it should arrive in a fortnights time.

My question is whether or not I can play game slike Age of Kings (AoE), Command & Conquer Generals, Diablo2, Simm City 3000 and even Total War?

My stats are as follows:

1.86 Ghz 533 MHz FSB
1Gb RAM
128 Mb ATI Radeon X300

WSXGA Monitor
100GB Hard Drive

thanks

Yes I agree.

The 6000d is NOT a gaming machine at all.

The D810 is much better, and the 9300or XPS even better than that for gaming.

The 5150 / 5160 is faster than the 6000d and has a better video card in it. (5200 Go)

The 6000D is the wrong system for those applications - you will not be pleased with the video performance.

You would be better off canceling the order and ordering a minimum of a Latitude D810 with ATI X600 - better yet, an Inspiron 9300 or XPS.

One reply was that a guy in the US also plays Half Life 2 without any issues

I doubt it really.

Your comments are interesting as here in Australia, the 9300 is shipped with the same X300 graphics card......!!!! so their is no real gain......

There are other options for the 9300 than the X300.

Thanks for your replies......

Your comments are interesting as here in Australia, the 9300 is shipped with the same X300 graphics card......!!!! so their is no real gain......

The only difference between the 6000 and the 9300 seems to be the processor being the 2 Ghz CPU other wise the rest of the specs are down from my new setup.....

I still have my 3.06Ghz desktop, with 128 Meg Nvideo 4800 graphics card on their so for the real 3D games, I still have my desktop.....

There seems to be some confusing comments......some are saying they play some good 3D games without any issues and yet some are saying that the 6000 cannot handle these games.....One reply was that a guy in the US also plays Half Life 2 without any issues.

I'm confused now !!!!
It also seems the laptop has already been shipped and is about 3 days away...so I doubt I can change it

thanks

Thanks Jankerson for your quick reply.........seems we cannot get that model at all in Oz.......

Ummm, getting worried now......

So again, are you saying that no games are playable on my spec'd 6000?
Especially with the 128 mb card and 1 Gg RAM and better WXGA screen?

Thanks for the feedback so far people.....as much as I would love the 9300, there is a price difference here in Australia of some $800......as much as this would be a good system then, I cannot justify the increase......

So what you are saying then is that I cant play any game on the 6000??? OR
that I can play games but not Doom3 etc and I might need to reduce the quality or screen resolution???

thanks again

It's not a gaming machine at all.

The X300 is not a Gaming card.

If cost is a main factor and you want something to play games on get a Dim 4700 with the 6800 Video card.

Price out a Latitude D810 with the X600 Video card and see what you get.

You should be able to play games with that I6000. I've heard reports of people getting 40-60 FPS in CS: Source with 20 other people playing. If I can play Half Life 2 on my I6000 with integrated graphics, you can play on a 128mb X300. It seems the x300 is somewhat underrated.

Yeah, that sounds better. I saw a 128mb ATI MR 9700's benchmarks and a 128mb ATI MR X300's benchmarks and the X300 is very close to the 9700. An OCed X300 got like 3300 in 3DMark03 and the 9700 got around 3500. I think the 9700 was OCed also.

The card in the 6000 is the X300 SE, not the X300.:smileywink:
