Speakers not working

Question

My daughter and I each have an Inspiron 5150.  The speakers on my daughter's do not work.  We have checked through the troubleshooting completely, and all systems check out fine.  There are no conflicts, and the speakers check out okay, but still nothing.  I should mention that she had lent her computer to a fella who returned it in this condition, so who knows what he did! I have checked the setup when powering on the computer and everything seems okay. I did read in a posting that perhaps the bios is set to disable the speakers, is this possible?  If so, how do I correct the situation? Barring anything else, I could open the box to see if the speakers are even there, or have been disconnected; if thaat were the case, wouldn't the troubleshooting have picked it up?  Very confusing.  Appreciate any help you may have.  Thanks.

Click the speaker ICON in the right task bar and open the volume control. See if the guy muted the sound or set it to minimum

Hi,   It is worth trying the Diags, to test it outside of the OS. Also, try some headphones. These models were prone to failure of the audio amp, so no sound and device manager looks OK, same as all the settings. [ such as vol and mute as mentioned in the previous Post ]                                                                          Regards Chris

Hi,   The audio amp is part of the MBD, I may not have made it clear, but when it goes bad, no sound. Because the the computer can see the audio section OK, no error message and the drivers all load OK. It may have had settings changed, some people do that with other peoples computers, same as with cars. Once around the block and seat, steering and mirrors all wrong. [ very annoying ] I think there is a shop that fixes this issue with your model. Try and Google AQStech.                                                                             Regards Chris

I appreciate the suggestions.  At this point, it just may be something with the motherboard.  Chris, you mention the audio amp; what do you mean?
