SSD and Window 7 installation.
I was upgrading my Dell xps m1730. I installed ocz 500gb sdd in sata o tray, but I think in the bios was set to ATA. After installing windows, and I think with no drivers whatsoever. boot it up and everything seemed to work fine and was happy with the new speed at boot up and shut down. until the forth attempt at boot up it said no disk to be found, please reseat the drive. I have done that so many times, checked on my other laptop and the SSD is showing in the BIOS and computer. I returned it back to the original pc and same message and tried in Sata 1 and fourth ,the bios shows none hds primary or secondary. What did I do wrong, why this happened? how can I fix this? its driving me mad. Please must be an answer for this, I checked the ssd and its working, the sata cables look ok. I have tried other hds in the tray and I get same message, over and over again. No drives to be found, please reseat. no bootable devise found.... Additional Details I have set the Bios to Achi still no good but maybe that was to late.. .

Well I'm not 100% on this, but installing Windows on an SSD that's running in IDE compatibility mode should absolutely not break it like that. At first I thought that the SSD drive had gone bad (not impossible), but of course you said that it works in another machine.
What happens if you put a standard hard drive in there?

yes I did try and use it's original hard drives in there ,but no , same message again,
"no hard disk found"
sata cable o and 1 in tray don't respond.
the bios reports no hard drives.

Well sounds like something has been disturbed. How many hard drive bays does that thing have?

Ok so what I did to start off with, was taking out the two 200gb drives,
and place the Ssd in bay o , placed the Os in the cd drive and went through the process of installation,
every thing was going fine windows finished installing , momma I thing I forgot to take the disk out mmmm,
boot it up and hey that was fast , then I checked the bios and it was under Ata and it showed on pc c :drive
as 470insh gb
All seemed well and running fine
Then I noticed the so was still in tray , took it out , and everything went wrong from there
it would show
No drives found ,reseat . No boot diverse found
f 1 retry boot f5 run diagnosis and it reported no drives error.

It has two hard drive bay,
its original drives where 2 x200gb momentous
running window 7 ultimate as one drive. It showed up on PC as drive c: 372 gb available.
That was the original setup when I bought it 3 years ago
and has served me well no magiour issues like this one.

Okay, so it sounds like it had a RAID array configured. How exactly did the upgrade go? Because if you're running one 200GB drive and a 500GB SSD in RAID together, that might be your problem.

You see when you took out the drives and replaced them with the SSD, the BIOS still retained the original RAID configuration. So it thought that there were two drives acting together to form one big drive. Honestly I'm surprised that it even worked at all.
To remove the RAID array, see this thread:

Do that, and it should recognise the drive just fine.

I just wanted to let the two of you know that I've been following this thread long enough to watch it unfold. I had my suspicions about a RAID configuration when he mentioned it was setup with 2 drives. Apparently a RAID 0 config ...as you metioned 2 identical drives acting as one really big really fast drive. Initially my first reply would have been to set the drive emulation to AHCI vs. reconfiguring the RAID array. BUT I'll wait to see what comes down that pipe when he (if) he gets back from finishing the process you gavve him info for. (sometimes people forget to come back and verify solutions) NICELY DONE guys! This is what I like best about the Dell Community Forum.
