Standby problems

I  am experiencing a problem. My 1100 will not return from standby when I open the monitor. The screen will stay dark, the fan starts, the light shows that there is activity but nothing appears. I have to manually turn off the computer then restart completely. What does it take to correct this problem?

I also have same problem. Is Dell realized that Inspiron 1100 have its problem. MS service pack 2 and Dell Video are for its blame.

Just have to tell you -- posted a request for help elsewhere on the furm for the problem described in this thread (thought I had exhausted all the possibilities before posting, but Murphy's Law, the minute after I post elsewhere I find the correct topic here!).

Performed the "fix" that Richard Sullivan suggested herein.  Shazam!  It worked.  Richard -- you're a genius.  Many thanks!!!!

Will the same solution work for the 600M? I checked the Updates history and I don't seem to see any Dell video stuff.

Please help. I just bought this computer 2 weeks ago.

Richard,

I tried what you suggested, but got the error message, "no driver files have been backed up for this advice."  Any idea on what I should do next?

Jeff,

If you have the Intel® 82845G Graphics Controller, you can find the old drivers at

http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/Filter_Results.aspx?strOSs=45&strTypes=all&ProductID=865&OSFullName=Windows*%20XP%20Home%20Edition〈=eng&sType=prev

If you cant get this link to work, go to the Dell site and do a search for Intel® 82845G Graphics Controller, and look for the old driver selection, the new driver that you have does not work.

I have one dated 8/20/04
Version 6.14.10.3889

Good luck

Richard

Richard,

It worked perfectly. Thank you so much. I have worked with the "tech support" people at dell and they couldn't figure out what was wrong. Just a short time on this forum and I got the help I needed. Thank you so much.

My laptop did the same thing until I realized it was because it was getting hot. It doesn't take much time for laptops to get hot. I did not have a 'riser' at that time. I bought one and have not had a problem since.

I had a similar issue with my 1150. Following the SP2 update that automatically installed on my laptop, my computer started randomly shutting down. Could it be that it was just in standby mode? And did anyone else have issue with it cutting you off while you were in the middle of working - not during an inactive period when standby would normally kick in? Also curious if anyone knows the exact date that the update went out? I think I got hit with the automatic update on 5/18 or 5/19.

I ended up shipping my laptop to Dell to fix it and now they're telling me I need a new motherboard. Conveniently, my year warranty was up 2 months ago.

The system restore method didn't work for me.  Still has the same problem.  I would have to restore it from ages ago I guess, which I can try.

Thanks for that information! I couldn't roll back because I just reformatted and put the newest version on so I uninstalled it and searched intel for the old version. This problem was driving me crazy!
