studio 1537 media panel problems

hi there. i am having some issues with my new studio 1537. this is my second studio. the first, a 1535 was replaced by the 1537. both studios have the same problems.

at 1535, the eject - light was on, the dvd-rw was trying to eject, without having a cd in for several times, until it came off and all media panel buttons working correct. some times, the eject -key remained on and no other key worked, or the mute key was on and the pc didn't start windows at all. motherboard and media panel was replaced, but the problem insisted. that' s why dell hellas delivered me a new 1537.

unfortunately, the same problem appeared in it. a technisian came in my place and found out that tha media panel cable wan not properly installed on motherboard. that seemed to be the problem, until next day, when the eject - light appeared again. i reinstalled vista, upgrading to ultimate and solved the problem for about 15 days, when suddenly after "waking up" from sleep mode, the eject - key light on again...

i believe that must be a software problem with media panel or a hardware motherboard problem.... i'm waitin for media panel driver or firmware fix.

any suggestions?

ps: an excuse for my english.

Well I was able to follow the link eventually and I am pleased to report that the fix does work . Hopefully that is the cure we have been waiting for . Thanks to all concerned , especially Bill and acgiannopo.

Hey, I just got a 1537 a week or so ago without knowing about these problems, but I definitely am not willing to 15 minutes, nor remove the battery and ac and hold the power button down every time.

So......................if you can catch it immediately upon boot (as soon as you see the dell logo) and follow these steps, it should get you into windows:

1) press any light on the media control panel and hold until windows starts booting (any light other than the eject light)

2) if it looks like it is hung at all or the cursor is blinking in the upper left corner,  slide your finger to the next button on the media control panel and hold until windows boots

3)  Windows should boot up

This will at least bring you to windows without waiting and/or dismantling your Laptop everytime until Dell comes up with a solution, which I know they are working on, as stated above.

Hope that helps.

As far as I am concerned this issue has been resolved . I followed the instructions given and by updating the bios and creating a CD as instructed , I was able to get everything working . I do not have to wait for anything to boot , things work perfectly. Bill has said he is working on getting the link working , but you can get the details of that from aciagiannopo's earlier post.

Well you must be the lucky one. My new Dell Studio 1537 has the same issue with it ejecting after startup and nothing has resolved the issue. A couple times the volume lit up and shot all the way up to. It does not always happen right away, and until it does its little eject routine nothing else on the control panel works. Sometimes it takes more than 30 minutes before it does it. Ok here is my laundry list of the repairs Dell and I have tried, which failed. I have talked to Dell on online chat multiple times and phone a couple times. They have deleted something in the registry and reinstalled it with no fix. They had me restore the computer to factory defaults, which is a pain because I had to reinstall all software, which did not work. The tech has come to my house twice to replace, dvd drive, hinge cover(control panel), motherboard, and now they sent me a new hard drive because they claim it must be the operating system, all failed miserably. They also had me take it apart a couple times to try to reseat the hinge cover which means I had to take apart the keyboard and remove the control panel, unplug the cable and plug it back in and put everything back together, and I am no technician. While on chat with Dell 2 days ago the light came on and stayed on, even restrating the computer did not get the light to go off. Every piece of hardware and software has been replaced and nothing worked. I will be calling Dell today to either have my computer replaced WITH A DIFFERENT MODEL, or get a refund. We should not be spending all this money for something that does not work. I asked Dell a couple days ago if they knew of this problem and the person said they would check but I never got an answer until I googled the problem today and found this forum, and on Dell's website no less. They are obviously aware of the problem and didn't bother to say anything. I believe they should recall this model and stop sellling it and replace it with something that works.

Check this out. It is a fix for our problem. I have allready tried and works fine.

Here is the link for the firmware

Update firmware for system hinge cover.

Create a bootable CD:

NOTE: Please make sure you have CD imaging software installed in your system, which can create a bootable CD based on ISO image format.

1. Download the firmware installation file FM7_X0D.ISO, and save it in your system.
2. Run the CD imaging software to create a bootable CD based on this FM7_X0D.ISO file.

Take Roxio Creator as an example for the procedure.

1. Insert a blank writable CD in your system.
2. Open Roxio Creator.
3. Click File menu.
4. Go to New Project / Copy / Burn Disc Image to Disc.
5. Click Browse.
6. Add this FM7_X0D.ISO file from the location you saved.
7. Click button to continue, till complete the CD creation.

Flash firmware:

NOTE: Please make sure A/C power is being used while updating the firmware.

1. Insert this CD in your system.
2. Reboot the system, and enter one-time boot menu by pressing F12.
3. Boot from the CD drive.
4. The CD will autorun and update the firmware.
5. Once completed, screen will show pass and Flash Successful.
6. Shut down the system.
7. Remove A/C power cable and battery.
8. Replug in A/C power cable and battery to continue normal operation.

NOTE: Please make sure to remove A/C power and battery once firmware update completed.

Did you try the new firmware? Did you follow all of the instructions? If not, try it. It is a few posts behind. If doesn't work, ask for a brand new 1537, and if the new has the same problem, then try the firmware first.

I have had this issue for over 3 months (2 motherboards and 3 hinge covers).  I

was firm with them getting my point across, but never lost my temper.  My case

eventually was transfered from Technical Support to Customer Relations.  I don't

think the two communicate, as it was during this time the firmware fix came out

which I applied.  It seems to fix the ejecting issue, but since the last motherboard

change, the fan periodically will begin to run at high speed and will eventually slow

down.

Anyway, they promised me a brand new replacement 1537.  Since the fingerprint

reader was no longer available, they sent me a 1555 with facial recognition.  Got

it yesterday along with other upgrades.  Had the LED 1280 X 800 display, got the 900p.

Had the 256mb Radeon 3450, got the 512mb Radeon 4570.  Needless to say the

sound quality on the 1555 is 100% improved.

I have to say, the reps I dealt with were professional, and tried their best to accomodate

me.  The last week or so waiting for the replacement PC, they were calling at least two

times a week with updates.  I don't ever wan't to ever go through this again, but in the end,

I'm content with the outcome.

I hope all turns out well for everybody.  I have to go and cleanout the 1537 and

package it for return.

Fewer posts above is the answer to media panel problem. Download and install the updated media panel firmware following the instructions. Works 100%.

Warning when I loaded the firmware it just disabled my whole control panel so none of the buttons worked. After I downloaded it that is when Dell decided to reload my BIOS and all those other fix downloads that finally fixed the problem. So, when you copy the firmware on to cd and load it be repared to maybe still have to call Dell. I personally prefer the online chat with Dell so they can do all the downloads remotely.

I can only say what I've said before , and that is to follow acgiannopo's instructions that he has posted several times. This was a complete cure for my troubles . Note that you must do exactly as he says including removing the battery and unplugging the power .

Hi

I download the firmware fix from acgiannopo in early june, ran it as instructed and have had no more problems with the media bar controls at all. So it does work as far as I'm concerned.
