studio 1558 drivers
After my hard-drive crashed I had it replaced by a local shop. They reinstalled Windows 7 but some features of the keyboard do not function (ie scroll and other touch-pad options, the eject key, audio keys and others). When I originally received the laptop from Dell many of these things did not function and a nice lady in India took remote control and said that the wrong drivers were installed and fixed the problem. How do I know what drivers I should have?

Access the Dell driver downloads using your service tag number. www.support.dell.com Accessing the drivers by the service tag should only show applicable drivers for your PC (as it was built). The "My Dell Downloads" Click Me should also be accessed for any applications, such as CD/DVD burning software, etc.

I went to the Dell driver download site and downloaded several things. Now my keyboard is much improved. Thank you. But I cannot scroll or zoom with my touchpad. Idownloaded a touchpad driver but it does not install. so....I went to my computer "system Information" page. It says that I have a PS/2 keyboard and lists a 32 bit driver. Obviously wrong and I am stumped as to how to proceed.

I'm moving this to the Laptop hardware forum so the Laptop people can further assist you with getting all the hardware working.

aben5061,
Did the local shop install the drivers in the correct order? How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order
The notebook system utility and the chipset drivers needs installed first or the rest of the drivers will fail to install.

I went back and looked at downloads and he first installed two of the three Chipset drivers listed when he started. Then he downloaded some other stuff. I later went to the driver and downloaded input drivers and others and the functions on the upper keys started working AND I got the appropriate icons on my screen. I wonder about the third Chipset driver...
Thanks, this is very helpful.

aben5061,
Installing the NOtebook system utility first, then the chipset drivers.
Then go down the list.
Touchpad should be under Input.
Look under applications and some of the items are listed there. Make sure to install Dell Quickset.
