Studio 17 is latency problem fixed in new model
I have a studio 1735 which is useless to me as a tool for audio creation due to latency issues. I would be prepared to upgrade to the 1749 (I guess that is the latest ) if the audio stuttering is fixed.
Does anyone know if this is the case as I don't want to waste another couple of grand almost.
Thanks

Always try to Google the issue first ..& then Post here..
Pratheeshps, this Laptop Audio discussion board that you have posted on is where the issues of excessive DPC latency in the early Studio models was first discussed, where the dialog occurred between the laptop owners and the Dell engineers, and where the owners posted their solutions. If you would like to become acquainted with it, see this thread to read my brief history of the sequence of events, then follow the links I left there to the main threads where all of this unfolded over a period of 14 months.

See if any of the solution in the Choppy/Skipping Audio FAQ help.

Hello Ray. There continues to be issues due to excessive DPC Latency on Dell models and probably all other PC manufacturers of Windows based computers (DPC Latency is an artifact of Windows), because of drivers not being written to proper standards and the computers' complexity. Instead of being designed to do one thing very well, they are expected to be everything to everybody, and each device or software manufacturer wants their product to perform to its full potential even at the cost of robbing performance from other functions, usually audio. There are standards in place to prevent this from happening but no one enforces them.
However most instances of excessive DPC latency are fixable. See the Choppy/Skipping Audio FAQ where I have gathered virtually all of the solutions that owners have found for noise issues. Not all of the instances in the FAQ are related to excessive DPC latency but probably most are.
But the particular problems with DPC latency on the early Studio models (1735, 1737, 1535, 1537, and perhaps the 1555) were unique. I did not even include them in the FAQ because their issue was so unrelated to anything else we have seen. Dell actually tried for about a year to fix the problem in those models but never found a software solution. In the end they changed the design so that later models would not suffer from the same problem. Maybe someday I will devote a section of the FAQ to those models, but in the meantime if you are interested I have written a summary of the history of it in this thread if you are interested.
Over 2 years ago the engineers told us that the problem with those early Studio models was in their design (unintentionally) and that the later models would not have the same design flaw. From what I have seen over the last 2 years they were correct about that. If you do buy a later model Studio or other Dell, I cannot guarantee that it won't have an excessive DPC latency issue, but it definitely won't be the same intractable issue that the early Studio models had. If you get one with noise issues you can probably resolve those issues with the instructions in the FAQ, and failing that you can return the unit for a refund within the initial return period. I believe that with any brand of computer you will have to go through the same process of testing after you configure it to your needs.
