Thanks, but to tell the truth I'm looking for a portable surge protector.  I already have a sweet 8 plug Belkin one that Iv'e been using for years.

Also what kind of Joule rating do I need?  Will 180 J work?  Do I need 238 J min?

I like APC brand. Remeber, though, that you get what you pay for when you buy a surge supressor. I've used this one with good experience:

Your notebook's battery is a free surge protector...

I have to disagree with the last post.  The battery acts as a free Uninteruptable power supply, but not a surge supressor.  I would highly recommend using a dedicated surge supressor.  To the user that has been using a surge supressor for years, make sure that the protection indicator light is still lit.  Surge supressors have limited lifespans and most have an indicator light that will not light when the supression ability is "used up".

My surge protector's light is still on.  Going on 4 full years now too.

Anybody purchace Belkin Notebook Travel Surge Protector or Tripplite Direct Plug in Surge Suppresor?  Which one would be best for a 9100?

Hi, My question is, do you know which surge protector I have to order from Dell, to use in Brazil? They are supposed to have the same alternating current that we have here. I am trying to find out, and also one for traveling on airplane to use my Inspiron 8200. I had to go on vacation and try to find a surge protector for traveling, to read your message and find that my old one at home was no longer any good. I live in Arizona where there is bad lightening. Thanks for your important information and I see that you are a regular forum user. Suziar
