Touch pad (mouse) not working...

So I got a MS optical mouse. It will not move, it will ghost and it will stay in one corner and things like that. What can I do to make it stop doing that?

Did you install the software and drivers? What model computer, what model mouse? Did you follow the instructions for installing, such as installing the software and drivers first, before connecting the mouse? Any error messages? Does the Touch Pad still work?

I'm replying on my Dell desktop, BTW...so my laptop mouse is still on the fritz.

I have an Inspiron 8200, the touch pad worked, but it was doing the same thing as the optical mouse is doing now. I don't think it had a CD with drivers on it...the optical mouse. I could try to download them and reinstall, but not having a mouse, makes that difficult.

I'll search on my desktop and see what else could be wrong.

Now that you have this info, what do you think?
