Touch Pad settings on Precision M6300

The speed settings on my touchpad's speed control return to the center (the typical default)  every time I reboot. It is very annoying, as with the resolution of my monitor, the speed to move the cursor across the screen takes forever. I change the speed to almost the full right side of the slider bar, save the settings, close out that dialog box, and all is well until the next  reboot, when all of those settings get cleared. All of the other settings remain the same.

How can you save the cursor speed settings for the touchpad? My laptop was purchased last november, so it is not even a year1. old, and the touch pad driver is version 10.1.2 and dated 10/26/07.
