Is there some way to disable the touch pad on my studio 1735 Laptop?  I find it interfers with my typing as I hit it far to often

Hi,

You can try an external USB mouse with the computer to see if it is an issue with that. Try using your system in ‘Safe mode with Networking’ and see if it exhibits the same behavior.

Steps to access ‘Safe mode’:

  1. Restart the computer.
  2. Tap the F8 key on the keyboard during the boot process until you see the Windows Advanced Options Menu on the screen.
  3. Select “Safe Mode with Networking” from the menu using the arrow keys on the keyboard and then press the key.
  4. Select the user account at the log in screen.

Check if the issue persists there.

You can reinstall the touchpad drivers on your computer from the link: http://dell.to/TcxIAc

Steps to download drivers:-

  • Click 'Download file' to download the list to a folder you will designate.
  • Click 'Save'. Then designate the folder you would like to save the files to.
  • Once you have designated the folder you would like to save your files to, Click 'OK'.
  • Selected downloads will automatically start downloading. Next is Installation.
  • To start installation, Click Open folder. Right-click a downloaded file and select the option to ‘Run as administrator’.
  • A small window will appear with 'Continue' and 'Exit' buttons, click 'Continue'.
  • In the Select the folder where you want to unzip the files to window, click OK.
  • If a message appears asking to create a folder, click 'Yes'. If a message appears asking to overwrite the folder, click 'Yes to All'.
  • In the All files were successfully unzipped window, click OK.
  • A new window will appear, follow the prompts that appear to finish the installation.
  • Restart your computer.

Please reply in case you have any further questions.

It seems that everytime I touch the mouse pad, or the palm rest area, my laptop shuts down, immediately. It was working fine, till last week, no changes. And the laptop is fine untill i move it or touch the palm rest area.

What would cause this issue? Please help
