Hi JennyT,

I would suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the video card driver on the system. Please follow the steps mentioned below to uninstall the video card.

1. Click on Start button.

2. In the search box type devmgmt.msc and then press enter.

3. Select the graphics card device under Display adapter and right click on it

4. Now select properties.

5. In the properties window, under Driver tab, click on Uninstall button.

6. Check “Delete the driver software for this device.”

7. You want to delete the driver click OK.

After the uninstall finishes restart the system. Then reinstall the video card driver on the system for issue resolution. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, select the OS, then download the video card driver from Video section onto the system and install it.

Also, I would suggest you to run the online Dell PC diagnostics on your system from the link below and let me know the error codes.

1.       Open the link http://dell.to/14YjKb2

2.       Select ‘Blue Screen Analyzer’ under Software.

3.       Click on ‘Run Diagnostics’ button.

4.       Let me know the results.

The Blue Screen Analyzer identifies errors in system files that can trigger a blue screen at startup. Based upon the results of this analysis, you may choose to run a troubleshooter to fix these errors. The first time you run this diagnostic, it will take about 10 minute.

Hi JennyT.

I would suggest you to boot the system into ‘Advanced options’ (F8 during start up) screen and try booting up the system from ‘Last Known good configuration' to check if the touchpad works.

Also, I would suggest you to connect an external mouse on the system to check if its hardware or software issue.

The touchpad works. I downloaded Dell Touchpad / Pointing Stick, v.7.x2.101.223, A11 and that prevented it from working. We had this before the laptop was wiped and it worked fine, so how come when I download it now it doesn't work? The hardware is fine.

Thanks it worked!!

But the Display driver keeps crashing and recovering. Unrelated to the touchpad thing. It's been doing that for a while and sometimes gives the blue screen of death. :(
