Touchpad not working properly
I have a studio 1749, eighteen months old. the touchpad never worked properly. instead of taking care of it right away, i got a logitech wireless mouse. however, the computer often doesn't recognize it, so now i have to deal with the touchpad. It behaves erratically, sometimes moving and fast scrolling when I am just moving the cursor, and NEVER able to scroll when I want to scroll. The web site will not auto detect my service tag, and even when I input it, I have trouble getting to a driver that might work. Is this generally a driver problem or a hardware problem? what to do ?????? thanks.

Hi, have you tried to run Dell Diagnostics from the driver CD that came with your computer? My own touchpad does not work properly and I cannot use my USB ports from some reason (may be related since you can opt to turn off the touchpad when using a USB mouse). When I ran the diagnostics, the result came back that both of my touchpad buttons are pressed. Consequently, I can't always click on things and the scrolling can be erratic or even nonexistent. Your problem sounds slightly different--however, if there is a hardware issue, it might save you the hassle of downloading and reinstalling drivers only to find you have the same problem. Good luck!

Oh, and you should be able to find your service tag by going to the start menu, clicking on 'help and support' and then clicking on "computer information."
NEVERMIND THIS POST, I didn't realize at first that you had also tried to input the service tag.
