Unknown charger

Question

I have an inspiron 1150. My charger took a so I had to order a new one. I replaced it with the same exact model number. The charger looks the same, but somehow is different.   The green light comes on which means I am getting power to the charger. It continues to run on battery power even though I plugged it in. When I turn my laptop on I get this message:   The AC Power Adapter type cannot be determined.  This will prevent optimal system performance.   Then it gives me options to not display the message again... go to setup.... or continue.   Can anybody help me with this? I would appreciate it greatly.

nvm.... thanks for the help, i figured it out   The end that plugs into the laptop does not have the center pin. It has been snapped off.   Kinda like a coaxal cable without the piece that goes in the hole.

Forgot to mention... I was using my frined's charger and it was working fine.   We accidentally switched chargers a while back. He is using my old charger (which was shipped for my laptop) so I have been just using that one when he's not using it. If I plug his in it works fine, but when I plug the new one (exact same model as his) it gives me the error message.   I was thinking that maybe they modified something inside the charger that is making the computer not read it right.

The system board - most likely the power jack on it - is faulty.
