Upgrade query!
Hi there, Wanted to know if it was possible to upgrade my notebook’s hard ware. Though with a T7200 CPU, 100 GB 72K drive, 2 GB @ 667 & 256MB Ge Force 7900GS has a WEI of 4.5. Is it possible to add another drive, increase graphic card to 512 , & probably add another 1 GB of ram? I a’int facing any kind of issues since I bought it almost 8 months ago ……smooth as silk……no memory issues… plays all games ..Smooth browsing……no drive noises….great aero interface… no driver problems……video card is awesome…. With no tweaks……etc……just curiosity. If it is possible will I have to install the new stuff or ship my note book to Dell TX? Thanks in advance.

You don't mention the model notebook, but it sounds like an Inspiron E1705/9400, in which case:
CPU is Socket M (NOT socket P). You can use the T7200, T7400, and T7600 CPUs, with the last one being the fastest. You CANNOT use the T7100/7300/7500/7700/7800 and the new T7250,etc., T8xxx and T9xx CPUs). Those are all socket P and incompatible.
You have the top card for that chassis - nothing else will fit graphics-wise.
Upgrading the RAM and hard drive are both possible, with the latter being a replacement, not an add-on.

The CPU limitations hold as above.
RAM can go to 4G.
System supports single hard drive.

Dell laptops are super easy to work on. Just use the Dell service manual for your model. You definitely don't want to do something as foolish as paying someone to do it if you choose to upgrade. I never thought I'd ever think of opening up a laptop, but I've been into my 9300 countless times and the M1710 once. I used to follow the manuals, but now it takes minutes to get it cracked open.RAM takes seconds (flip it over and open the compartment.
As far as second hard drive goes, it is possible, but it's not a standard Dell upgrade. With caddies designed for other PCs, they can house a second drive, but you can't use your optical drive at the same time (the drive goes in that spot). I've got a few of the caddies I scored from a seller in China. They work great.
I'm pretty sure you can get the 9750 GTX into your system (I'm assuming you have a 1505 or 9400 as well). I hang out on another site and people are always finding ways to upgrade their vid card. I can't say with certainty how it's done because I have no desire to upgrade my 9300 vid card and the 1710 has the 7950 already. :smileyhappy:
