Upgrading the 2007 M1730 XPS
Hi guys,
For the past couple of years i have been doing some gaming on the M1730 dell. I have had no problems with top of the line graphics but in 2011-2012 i have had to lower the game settings. I have finally reached the point where i am unable to run late 2012-2013 games. I am not a "hardcore" gamer, so i am against the idea of buying a tv, counsel, controller and all that other stuff. I went on to CANYOURUNIT and discovered that the problem was from my CPU and my video card. My video card only have 256Mb while most modern games required 512. Below i will share the specs that my computer has and the information that i got from Can you run it has told me is recommended. I am open to any advice, i am running a vista(do not tell me to junk it and go windows 7).
CPU-Intel(R) Core (TM) 2 Duo Cpu t9300 @2.50GHz
Recommended;Intel Core i3-539/Amd phenon 2 X@ 565
Ram 3.6
Recommended 4(i stil pass minimum)
Video Card GeForce 8700m GT
Recommended Nvidia GTX 480/AMD Radeon HD 5770
I know i should consider a newer computer but i wish to let this one run for a little while longer, so if there is any way to do that i would appreciate any advice.

There's not much room for a CPU upgrade - there are some slighly faster Core 2 CPUs, but nothing remotely as capable as a Core i. There was also an 8800m available - again, nowhere near current.
Put whatever you'd spend on the video card and CPU aside for your next system. This one just can't be upgraded by very much.

Hello TheMagicTurtle,
The XPS M1730 was shipped with the PPGA478 Socket supported Processors. This only supports Core 2 Duo processors. According to your system specs, I would suggest the following upgrades:
-- Processor - Type T9300 can be upgraded to T9500 (6M Cache, 2.60 GHz, 800 MHz FSB) or Core2Duo Extreme X9000 @ 2.8GHz .
-- 4 GB Memory can be upgraded to 8 GB, as this is the maximum memory supported by the system.
-- NVIDIA GeForce Go 8700M GT (512MB) can be upgraded to NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTX (1 GB).

Would those upgrades satisfy the requirements of modern games? Also do you personally things it is worth doing the upgrades?
