I would not advise that,i purchased some 800Mhz ram because it was so cheap just to see if it would.After running it(it clocks back down to 667Mhz) my E1705 was too hot to touch.

Thanks for the link, thats definitly cheaper, and the 800MHz is no more expensive than the 667MHz, which is making me lean towards the 800MHz.  Any more thoughts?

@above:  I checked your system on Crucial's website, and it only recommended 667MHz cards, which to me means that your computer is not meant to use ram at that speed, which might explain the temperature exceeding that of the sun.

That is why i posted it to you.I was just warning you that 800Mhz ram will work,but,will cause a problem down the line.I just did it to see if anything would change(if the ram speed would somehow go to 800Mhz,HA,HA).But it turned out,i turned it into a toaster instead.I only had the 800 ram in for about 15 minutes before going back to my 667 ram.

Wether or not 800 mhz will work may depend on the motherboard chipset. Maybe ejn63 could answer that for us. You may contact crucial and see what they say. They are the ones that garuantee their memory to work in Dell computers. He is right if it does not work it will clock the memory down to 667 mhz.

The chipset will downclock the RAM to 667 MHz - it is not capable of running RAM at 800 MHz on the M1710.

That said, PC2-6400 should work - at PC2-5300 speed.
