Using wireless and modem at the same time
Whenever I do this with my Latitude D510 running XP service pack 3, the wireless stops working. Once I disconnect the modem connection it will start working again. Any suggestions?

Hi,
When more than one network connection is available, Windows uses the one with the lowest metric value. Automatic Metric is a feature in Windows XP that automatically configures the metric for the local routes that are based on link speed.
You can also refer to the link on Microsoft support site: http://bit.ly/VJMhhA
However, you can check the order of your connections in Network Connections->Advanced->Advanced Settings->Adapters and Bindings->Connections

(Refer to the picture below)
Please reply for further assistance.
Thanks and Regards

I moved the wireless to the top of the list. The wireless still stopped working when the modem was connected.

Thanks for the reply but Disable Upon Wired Connect is not in the Advanced Property list. The built in wireless adapter is an Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG. On the Driver tab:
Driver Provider: Intel
Driver Date: 10/21/2004
Driver Version: 9.0.0.61
When I go to Driver Details, the driver files are listed as w29n51.sys and w29NCPA.dll

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I researched on the issue and on the Intel website it is stated that when the adapter switching is enabled and the system is connected through the wireless adapter i.e.wireless connection and you plug in a LAN cable (Ethernet wire) into the machine, the wireless radio on the Wi-Fi adapter is turned OFF by the PROSet application.
Hence, only one connection is active on the system at one time. The only way to enable the radio on the Wi-Fi adapter is to unplug the Ethernet cable from the system.
You may try to disable Adapter Switching by following the steps below:
Uncheck the box titled "Enable Adapter Switching" in the description window.(Refer to the picture below)

For further reference you can refer to the link : http://intel.ly/VpRCcD
Hope the information is useful. Please reply.
Thanks and Regards

I should have added these in my last reply:
The wired network adapter is a Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated C
The modem is a Conexant D110 MDC V.9x
Three separate devices. Both the wired and wireless work fine at the same time. Only when the modem is used the wireless stops.

Hi,
Thanks for the information. Please run the Modem Helper and note if you get any errors. The steps to run the Modem Helper are as follows:
1. Start the Modem Helper utility from the Program list or the Desktop shortcut.

2. The Dell Modem Helper screen opens.
3. Click the Internet Explorer Information Bar and select Allow Blocked Content.(Refer to the picture below)
4. Click OK when the Enable Active Content warning popup appears.
5. Modem Helper will run and show errors if any.
Please reply with the findings.
Thanks and Regards

Hi,
Thanks for the information. Seems to be an issue with the Operating System files. I would suggest you to perform Operating System Reinstallation (OSRI) with the help of Windows XP CDs. If you have data in the system save it in an external hard drive or flash drive as OSRI will cause data deletion.
Click on the link below for the steps to perform OSRI:

Please reply with the results.
