video display icons

Hi

Just had to do a complete reinstall of XP

Everything went great except I don't have the icons that pop up and indicate when switching between the laptop display and the external monitor. It isn't much its just a bit annoying.  I assume I am missing a driver, can't find it though. Ideas?

I haven't had this problem before.

Dell E1705

T7200 @ 2.00 GHz

2.00 Gig RAM

NVIDIA 7900 GS

You need to install Dell QuickSet which can be downloaded from here.

Yep, did that already. Everything else works fine (Battery display, standby...etc). Maybe I will try uninstalling and reinstalling.

I have a corrupted .Dll in the video driver (dialogue pops up on startup) which I haven't gotten around to sorting out maybe that will help.

Immediately after installing Windows XP did you install the Notebook System Software and the Chipset driver before installing the video driver?

I couldn't swear to it as I did it a few weeks ago, but I believe that I installed most of the other drivers before I installed the NVIDIA driver.

I didn't realise there was a correct order.

The correct order of installation is listed here.

The Notebook System Software can be downloaded from this link. It is under System Utilities.
