Video Upgrade concerns plus ..
Just got new 1737 month ago .. Intel GM4500 video driver .. working ok .. Dell recommends upgrades .. one says GM45, other says GM4500 .. will upgrading really improve stuff, or maybe cause other problems and I should leave well enough alone, since working ok now? .. (for all I know, maybe I already have this on my computer.. my installed version is 7.15.10.1576) .. similarly dell recommends BIOS upgrade specifically for Studio 1737 to version A06 (I have A05) .. here too, should I not upgrade and leave well enough alone? .. (I'm new at all this) .. plus .. as I asked in another productivity software thread, when I go to Dell Support Center and click About Your System then System Info then the Software tab, I get popup saying application error has occurred .. object doesnt support property or method .. etc etc .. Line 207 .. All other system info tabs work, and this one worked too when I first got computer, before I did UrgentDell Utility system software upgrade .. since, I restored back to before upgrade, but this tab now still dont work .. is this worth trying to fix, or unimportant, leave it alone and dont make it worse? .. This why newbie like me now afraid of all upgrades if unnecessary .. any help with all these novice questions appreciated .. thanx

Your video graphics is built-in to the motherboard and is not upgradable.I always recommend to not update your bios unless you have a specific
problem your trying to fix. Many users have bricked their systems with a bad bios update.I wouldn't worry about the error message your receiving from Dell support center.In fact the first thing I do is uninstall it and all the other bloatware Dell installs.Just set your Windows updates to automatic and keep your antivirus definitions up to date.
Try to have fun with your new computer and don't worry so much about updates and upgrades.Laptops are notoriously unupgradable(except for memory and hard drives) and technology moves so fast it wouldn't pay to anyway.-Vic

Exactly the kind of stuff I hoped to hear .. this being the case, whe does Dell recommend so many update/upgradres on their driver/dl page? .. just some mysterious rote protocol or marketing reasons, etc ? ..

In the IT field it is recommended to keep everything updated including your protection.The Bios has voulnerabilitys of being hacked if the right measures are not taken. I agree with the statement if it isnt broke dont fix it but you might want to read on the Bios update that you are going to perform to see what you are benifiting with the time you are spending. Dell works very hard at correcting issues with the software that drives their systems. If they provide an update normally it may be important, the software that notifies you of an updte is for users that normally would never think of updateing and is a curtacy dell provides.
