Volume in Dell Diagnostics
I wasn't sure which forum to post this question under, so please redirect me if necessary. I need to run a diagnostics on my Dell Laptop- is there any way to turn the volume down for this? It is too loud, and would be really unpleasant to other members of my household.

Press the Mute button or lower the speaker volume. We can't say exactly what to do since you don't provide any info about your computer and OS. Look for the Volume icon in the lower right or use the F1-F12 with the volume mute symbol or the adjust volume symbol.

I have a Dell Vostro 1500 running Windows XP Home. I ran the diagnostics a while ago, and while I had the speaker volume down, it still produced loud beeps. I don't want to mute it since I'll need it for this test.

Software volume controls and mutes should have no effect during the tests, because those things are Windows artifacts but the tests run outside of Windows. I can't remember if there is a volume control within the tests.
Just a suggestion. Keep heaphones plugged into the headphone jack during the tests. I "think" that will mute the speakers. Unplug the headphones when you want to test the speakers but do that when no one else is around who might be disturbed.

I ran the scan, and there wasn't a way to turn down the volume. I did have headphones plugged in, and that helped with part of the test. But some of the sounds came from somewhere other than speakers. Fortunately, it didn't happen too often. Now it's on to figuring out what these error messages mean!
