Vostro 1520 Screen Not Working
Hey all,
I'm hoping you can help me out a little. I have had our 1520 for about 3 years or so now. Today the screen stopped working. It does not go completely black (like it is when the laptop is powered off). You can see the screen come on, and I can adjust the brightness of it. However, I never actually get anything to come up on the screen. Neither the POST screen, the starting Windows screen, nor Windows displays on the laptop screen. I can connect an external monitor for it and I can see everything on it. I have upgraded the BIOS (as suggested on one forum). I have also removed the battery and connected it again (another suggestion). I have read that it could potentially be the screen, the video inverter, or the LCD balist (http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3519/t/19291414.aspx). Based on my symptoms, does anyone have any ideas? I don't want to buy a replacement screen for it to be something with the inverter, or something else.
Thanks for any help,
Tim

If there's nothing on the screen at all - not even a faint image -- you likely need a new screen (and SHOULD replace the inverter and cable with the screen). There's an outside chance it's a bad video chip -- even if there's a good image on an external display.
