vostro 3460 won't boot
Hi everybody,
my laptop vostro 3460 won't boot any more. When I turn it on it loads the Dell logo (I suppose it passes the POST) but then it just shows a black page. It could be anything, but I guess that it may have something to do with Windows 8 and the UEFI system. I would be really happy to get some help to solve the problem. I also would be quite happy to install linux mint and get rid of Windows, but I don't know how to change the boot priority order.
So my questions are:
1 is it a hardware issue ? if not, can I solve my problem easily ?
2 how can I change the boot priority order, to install mint ?
Thanks

Hi Fra123,
You could run a diagnostic to check for hardware issues. Please follow the instructions below to run diagnostics.
Turn the computer off >restart the computer , At the Dell logo screen, start tapping the F12 key a few times until you see the ‘One Time Boot Menu’ appear. At the one time boot menu, press the down arrow key to highlight ‘Diagnostic’, and then press Enter to begin the PSA diagnostics. If the test fails, please make a note of any error codes listed. You can also refer to the link below.

You could change the Boot priority in BIOS .Enter BIOS by repeatedly pressing F2 on boot up and select the “Boot” tab to change the Boot device.
Please try the below steps for the no boot issue.
Disable ISRT in the BIOS setup menu by selecting SATA mode and changing it to AHCI then saving the change and rebooting windows.
Reboot from windows and enter BIOS setup menu again to set SATA mode back to Raid
Restart Windows again and follow the steps below to Enable Intel Smart Response technology
Step 1: Launch Intel RST UI from system TrayStep
2 Click Accelerate Icon on top of page then click "Disassociate:
Step 3:
Step 4 Select HDD and Acceleration mode to "Enhanced mode"
HDD will now be Accelerated again.
Please note :You could install Linux on your system however Dell Does not have drivers for Linux.

PS - they diagnosed the problem realizing that it is impossible for me to access the BIOS pressing F2. I'm not a computer genius... I report what they said.

Thank you so much for your help Harish, I really appreciate that. Yesterday I called the Dell support and after asking a few questions about my problem they said that I have an issue with my motherboard, which is faulty. A tecnician should arrive soon and change it. As soon as something happens I hopefully will post the happy end of the story. Wish me luck guys !

A couple of days ago, after my call to the assistance, the technician came. He actually came right the day after my call, because I have a next business day warranty. The issue was correctly diagnosed on the phone, within a 5 minutes conversation they said that it was the motherboard and were not mistaken. The technician brought a brand new motherboard and put it into my pc real quick, he knew what he was doing. My pc came back to life immediately after having been repaired. So I am really happy to let you know that I actually experienced a real happy ending. Very well done Dell. I honestly didn't expect such a quick and precise service. It was an hardware problem but I would say that it happens. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Dell again. I like the 3460 and the company never disappointed me, which counts.
Anyway, thanks again for your help Harish !
bye for now
