Vostro CPU Swap

I have two Vostro 1000 notebooks.  They're VERY similar.  Here are the differences:

a) one has Sempron 3600+ @ 2GHz; other has Athlon X2 64 @ 1.9GHz;
b) they have different power adapters;
c) they have different DVD Combo mfrs.;
d) one came with Vista Basic; other came with XP SP3;
e) LCD screens are different version number of otherwise same model;
f)  They have different WiFi minicards;
g) One came with WORKS preloaded;

Basically, both suffered mobo damage due to spills; using one to cannibalize, I now have one working machine running XP.
BUT, it's the one with the Sempron on the mobo.  I'd really prefer the Athlon to the Sempron but the Athlon mobo was damaged beyond my ability to repair.

From what I can see, swapping the CPUs would be trivial.  I have thermal paste, etc, etc.

Does anyone know if it'll work?

Thanks..

The processors can be swapped, yes.

We found that it's not quite that simple.

The two units came with different RAM part numbers.  After swapping the CPU only, we experienced a series of machine checks, some during diagnostic runs.  We decided to try swapping the RAM as well and that worked.

Apparently, the RAM shipped with the Sempron would NOT work with the Athlon even though it worked just fine with the Sempron.

The Athlon unit shipped with the Y9530 p/n and the Sempron unit shipped with the Y9535 p/n.

From the descriptions on their respective bom's, it's not possible to see what the difference is other than part number.

However, the big hurdle was the CPU swap and so we finally got it done.

Thanks for the support.
