Wifi capabilities can't be enabled.

My dell studio 1558 won't connect to the wifi. People said to press f2 and fn to enable it, but it didn't work. The wireless icon is on the f2 key, but it doesn't work. The trouble shooter says to turn it on but it won't. How do I fix this, and is there a way to solve it manually?
