wifi stops working, quick fix:cycle stand by

First, check your Power Settings to make sure there is nothing that is shutting wireless down.

Thanks for the input - I checked that, and power savings are off for the device. The incidents happens regardless if the computer is plugged in or not, and always in the middle of something.

did you resolve this issue? I have this same problem on my XT on windows 7...

Try changing the Channel used by your router. Sometimes interference from other wireless equipment (phones. etc.) can cause major problems. Best channels to try are 1,5 and 11.

@KirkD - interference shouldn't cause problems on this scale (basically unrecoverable hardware failure).

@haveano - I reported this issue to Dell customer support, and they sent me a new wifi minicard to replace the old one (under warranty). Which I did. But the issues still persist, maybe less frequent though, but it is hard to say, since it didn't happen that often. I haven't gotten back to support - it seemed to work ok at first, so the case got closed. Probably the motherboard needs to be replace, or the drivers are faulty (less likely).

@FRAX, I agree with You that this is not problem with interference, because this problem occurr in different locations and networks. Besides event after turning wifi card off and on again, it still can not scan networks (does not see any wireless networks).

I will also report this problem to DELL support.

I am pretty sure that problem is with drivers of wireless card "bcm4328" (Dell Wireless 1505 draft N). Yesterday, i called to dell support, unfortunately they told me that Windows 7 is NOT supported on my machine (Latitude XT). I have reinstalled OS. Now I have Windows Vista Ultimate. I installed the newest drivers from dell site, ver. 5.60.188.1 (R251496). And for now everything is OK.

But I am still not happy. Working on Vista is a nightmare. Maybe they will fix this drivers?

I am sure, that i have 99% way to occurr issue with drivers on Windows 7. This problem occurres when I want to open a film directly from SMB resources. My SMB server works on Debian 5.0 (Lenny) with samba (ver. 3.2.5). This problem not occurr (yet?) on Vista, but on Windows 7 it was happening all the time!

That was happening on Windows 7:
-wireless network is disconnecting
-after that, i can not reconnect to wireless networks, system can not scan networks, system does not see any wireless networks
-turn off and on wireless card in device manager does not help
-turn off and on wireless by hard button does not help
-restart of tcp/ip stack does not help; "netsh int ip reset"
-uninstall and install again wireless card does not help
-it happens in different wireless networks, at random time. But in home, when i try watch film directly from SMB resources, it happens with 99% chance. The only way to fix this is to reload OS. Very simply, but unacceptable for me :/

Any idea?

I do not remember exactly, but I think i tried and without success. But still, this is partial solution.
One more idea: maybe I try install drivers from VISTA to SEVEN?

It doesn't help if you put the machine into standby/hibernate, and then wake it up again? That fixes it for me.

I solved my problem!

I reinstalled OS again. If in Windows 7 "Windows Update" will propose You an update of driver for your wireless card: "Broadcom driver update for Dell Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n WLAN Mini-Card", do NOT do it! Everything was Ok, before I update this dirver. After that, I have problems again ;/

But for least now I know what is wrong ;)

What has worked for some is to uninstall and delete the current driver for the 1505 card. Windows 7 will then install a compatible driver that works. Might have to re-boot.
