Will Microsoft mouse (Bluetooth) work with D800 w/ integrated internal Bluetooth chip?
I have an D800 on order w/ a Bluetooth chip integrated internally--expected to ship at the end of April. So yesterday, I hastily bought a Microsoft Wireless IntelliMouse Explorer for Bluetooth. A warning is printed on the side of the box. It reads, "Important: You must remove any installed Bluetooth transceiver device and remove its software in order to use this product." And another alert reads, "you must have the Windows XP update for Bluetooth." The mouse comes with a transceiver (USB).
1) Am I correct in assuming that if I don't plug-in the external transceiver (that comes with the mouse) that my internal transceiver will step-up and handle the mouse?
2) Because I ordered the integrated internal Bluetooth, is it reasonable to assume that my Windows XP Pro will have the update for Bluetooth?

Thanks for the information. I'm going to check further. Maybe I'll return the mouse and wait until I know more.

Update: I contacted Dell tech support, and was told that if my system shipped w/ service pack 1a it would have the updated drivers for human interface devices with bluetooth, but that if it shipped w/ sp 1 it probably would not have the updated drivers. It shouldn't be a problem however because the drivers are available from the Microsoft Website.

Good information.
However, the Dell Bluetooth module does not use the MSFT Bluetooth software stack. It uses its own proprietary stack. If you want to use the MSFT Keyboard and mouse (right now), you will need to use the MSFT transceiver. If you want to use the Dell BT module with the keyboard and mouse, you will need to wait on a driver from Dell.

I'm confused. Dell tech support insists that Dell has nothing to do w/ the drivers. I hope that a Dell moderator reads this. You seem confident in your position, and it does seem to make sense. If you are correct, perhaps I can just disable the Dell module until Dell presents a driver. Hopefully this will not be to difficult. Thanks Dilbatt.

The Keyboard and mouse are REALLY nice, but THEY DO NOT WORK WITH THE D800.
Microsoft has this REALLY ugly bluetooth antenna that they want you to plug into your USB port to make the mouse and keyboard work. What is the point of a wireless keyboard and mouse for the laptop when you have to use a USB port for an antenna?
This is a real bummer and I am hoping that Dell will release a driver for the MS products so that I can use them with the internal antenna. The mouse is REALLY nice. The keyboard is HUGE and has a lot of buttons on it that look like they could spoil you. I won't know until Dell releases a driver for this.
I am downloading the XP SP1a now manually since the Windows Update service did not seem to fix it. I will re-post after I test that,

Well,
I have a D800 with service pack 1a applied and the microsoft bluetooth mouse. It does not work. I am sure it is going to have to be a change in the BT stack that dell provides. Its a real shame as I was hoping to simply "plug and play" I am now looking through the registry to see if its a setting there. On my Ipaq, the BT headset profile was hidden because it was lousy. A simple registry change made it appear and work (lousy) but it was a simple setting.
If anybody finds an answer, please post.

i dont know about you, but at the top of the webpage that i am using to not only read these newsgroups, but also post this reply has a link labeled "Downloads".....you might start by clicking there.....i thought it was pretty nice that someone actually tested and posted their results....
and, once you click there, not only can you find ALL of the most current drivers for your dell systems, there is a link for dell's "file watch", which you can subscribe to automated notifications when new drivers and patches are available....

its not like saying "go to google" at all....where does dell release all of their drivers and patches?...its not as if you have to scour the web to find it....
its like saying "real men dont RTFM....real men ask other real men"....

Ahhh I understand. I feel the same way. If someone elludes to a fix or patch having a link is always best. My fault. Anyways using the mouse now! The best part of the deal i decided is now I have added the Bluetooth connector that came with the mouse to my desktop pc and now I can share the mouse and my IPAQ 5455 with both devices. Today is a good day.

I've downloaded, from Dell downloads, and installed Network: Dell TrueMobile 300 Bluetooth internal card, Driver Windows XP v.BTW 1.41.4,A01. FileName: R58915.EXE {17MB} Release Date: 5/5/03. Description: Bluetooth Widcomm driver/application version 1.41.4 to include HID (Human Interface Devices) support.
Question: 1)
After installing the update, what steps did you take to configure your internal Bluetooth to find and operate your mouse. On my system the update did not add an icon or anything to indicate a HID.
P.S. I'm new to computers, so please, if you would be so kind as to list exactly the steps I should take.
