[WIN8] Problems with USB 3 failure and Windows PRO 8 64bit

Images above after reboot and about five minutes later Ports report error.

Inspiron 17R N7110

I installed Windows Pro 8 64 bit on my one year old Dell lap top.
After doing this I lost connectivity for my 2 USB 3 ports.

If I uninstall them in device manager and have them re-installed automatically with a reboot I gain them for a quick recognition then after one use they drop out and Device Manager shows them as not functional.

I have tried going to both the Microsoft and Dell sites they both acknowledge that there is a problem  they say to uninstall the USB Hub divers and reinstall the drivers but this does not resolve the issue.

On a reboot or fresh start the USB3 ports install and work. The device manager show all okay and flash drives are functional.

Over a short period of time it goes non-operational and the drive does not show in My computer.
Device Manager then shows an "!" to the USB3 and the ports and drive are not there or accessible.

I have uninstalled both the USB 3 drivers and all the software. and also uninstalled the Complete USB Hubs and ports and had windows install everything but to the same result it self-deletes after a short while.

The one USB2 runs perfectly

Hello, i have the n5110 model and was having the exact problem that you are having with the USB 3.0 under windows 8 pro 64 bit. Either they worked very flakey or not working at all.  In my case i installed the windows 7 chipset winstron usb 3 host controller drivers. Problem fixed. Download the windows 7 chipset driver for your computer from dell's downloads.

Hi,

Welcome to the Community.

I would suggest you to download and install the driver on compatibility mode from the link mentioned below:

http://dell.to/UEUQn4

To install the driver on compatibility mode, right-click the exe file and choose “Install in Compatibility Mode”.

Also, would suggest you to update the latest chipset driver by clicking the link mentioned below which will take you to the drivers website:

http://dell.to/Qnizfs

Enter the Service Tag of the computer and choose the Operating System installed on the computer.

Thanks & Regards

64 Bit versions of windows REQUIRE WHQL certified drivers or they WILL NOT LOAD OR INSTALL.

You can F8 boot and disable this but you would have to do so each and every boot or the drivers will not load.

DELL-Manshu S the driver in your link is an INTEL USB 3.0 driver not an NEC  Renesas upd720202 USB3 DRIVER.

I would also suggest you to run the FIXIT.

Compatibility mode rejects the driver stating that at this time there is no method to install this driver under compatibility mode. Stating that it will inform  when there is a solution for installing under compatibility mode.

The chip set and all other update options had been and were installed to the try to resolve this current problem.

Thank you for trying to supply a resolution to this issue but hey do not work.

SpeedStep:

The Lenovo driver did not correct the problem it I the same driver as supplied in Win8 same date and build number.

Mr. Fixit is a sub section in the Action Center  program in Control panel and it does not detect or resolve the problem I have already tried it to detect or resolve the problem.

Win7 driver does not install at all under any circumstance. Generates a compatibility issue alert and a can not resolve use with install compatibility installer.

DanDG:

Looks like this has resolved the problem.

I now have a USB3 Hub and my Flash drive shows as hardware in the Device Manager.

Lets hope that it remains error free.

Thank you!

You're welcome. It should work from now on as it has in my case.
