XPS 15 9560 Screen Flicker

I too have the same screen flicker problem on my brand new XPS 9560.For heavens sake Dell I just received my XPS on March 15, 2017 in Canada.

Windows 10 Nvidia 373.06 - 500 g drive I don't know what else you need to know.

Both browsers Edge and Chrome (unchecked hardware accelerator on Chrome) experience same as reported in this thread.

Software added: Adobe Flash Player, Adobe PDF reader, uninstall Office trial - added Office 365 Personal subscription. Added Cricut Launcher (Explore Cutting Machine) - all my cutting files are performed in the cloud at Design Space.

According to your Dell support my drivers are up to date.

To say I am disappointed would be kind. I use this computer for my small business. I think Dell owes this thread a response as soon as possible.

Hi,

The screen on 9550 xps 15 is flickering, and random thin lines come up on screen. I have BIOS 1.2.19 updated last week. Updated all the drivers for graphics card. Still the same issue. Also tried to attach external screen (TV) via HDMI, and the screen flickers but everything on the TV is perfectly fine. (Duplicate display mode). Not sure what the issue here would be. What should i do?

Please if I could get some help here, it would be much appreciated!

Thank you,

On your system can you let me know what BIOS your system has? And is this on the XPS 9560?

Best regards,

This is by no means an isolated issue. I have a 9 day old XPS 15 9560 with 4k screen and bios 1.1.3 .... And it flickers. I love this laptop but for a 2k+ laptop. This is unacceptable.

I've been getting this ever since the last update. I can't play any games because the screen would flicker and then I'd get a blue screen of death.

It would flicker back and forth to a greener screen, then a lighter blue screen till it crashes. I'm guessing it's dell premier color or something. Makes me want to throw my $4000 laptop out the window cause it's literally useless right now.

I have the same issue too. The computer has restarted itself several times after the flickering starts.

GUYS READ THIS!!

I have bought 2 XPS 15's and this issue seems to be due to an out-dated Intel Driver that Dell is using. Pretty much the website on dell is rubbish as they don't have the updated drivers. The first laptop I sent back and bought another one - SAME ISSUE! I found out that all their laptops manufactured ALL have that problem. So I done the below steps and this entire issue and lag is completely GONE

So to fix...

Go to Intel and download their latest driver or use their driver update software, and it will do this automatically for you

Cheers!

No this is not the solution. I invite you to read the last pages. ( I think 5-7) of this post.

@Chadriot posted this as a solution some pages ago. He uninstalled the Intel drivers among other measures and installed the generic drivers from the Intel website and stated that he got rid of the flickering.

I read it and did the same. It was not as simple as you describe as the intel automatic update software warns you not to install a generic driver instead of a customized one from the computer manufacturer's website. Still I could first uninstall the device, uninstall all driver components and then install the intel generic driver.

In the first 8 hours I was full of excitement, like you. Then the flickering recurred, no change.

I asked then again Chadriot and he had flickering again.

So save your excitement for later.... if a real solution ever comes....

Sorry, the comments I refer to are in the other thread with the 140+ replies about the same problem. Not in this one. Still this is not the solution

@KimDELLuser

Manually installing the driver is the only way one can install the driver. If you try the automatic installation you get a lot of warnings that it is not wise to install a generic driver rather than the manufacturer's customized one and the installation is terminated. The persons I mentioned (including me) did a manual installation of the latest intel driver as well as previous versions.

However maybe our mistake lies in the procedure. Could you post a link to a post of yours or somebody else describing the procedure you used (how you uninstalled the existing drivers, did you uninstall additional programs, did you do this in safe mode etc etc).

Thanks again

Sorry If I didn't state the steps I did correctly... It was to manually install the driver, not automatic. my mistake. If you search this up tho many threads will tell you how to do it manually the way I did.

And by the way... Its been 2 months now since I done this, and no flickering issue. My laptop works like a charm now. It got rid of the issue completely. Others in other forums who followed the method also got rid of it completely.

I am confident it is the solution, well in this case me and many many other people

We don't need the last three steps. Just tell us how you uninstalled the intel drivers before manually installing the generic ones. You must remember doing that.... And don't worry, nobody will blame you! We know that every such move has risks and can take responsibility of our own actions...

I have done it 5 times up to now with various ways or uninstall programs with 0 effect so it would be good to know.

BTW: I also followed your advice, found threads on Reddit, nobody posts a solution that actually solves the flickering... Most of the discussions end prematurely with the people returning their laptops. If you ever come across that link again (just saying) I would be grateful to know.

I am sorry but I done this 2 months ago and forgot the last 3 steps! I really don't want to just say it in case you guys do it wrong and stuff up and then blame me.

So what I did was google search "dell xps 15 9560 screen flickering" and then there used to be a few threads that had a link to reddit that stated the manual fix. If you go on the threads now search replies for a date that was within March or February, find that link to Reddit. Then from there read whole thread it tells you what to do. There are also many Youtube videos now that are telling users how to fix the issue...

Also just a question, do you guys seem to have a heating issue where the XPS gets hot?
