Hi Akila,

Please try the following troubleshooting steps:

1. Confirm if 'Hard Drive' is detected in system BIOS:
- Power off the laptop
- Power it back on and repeatedly tap < F2 > on Dell logo (If Windows logo appears, shut down the laptop and repeat steps)
- On 'Main' page, capture the information besides 'Fixed HDD'

- If it says 'none', 'Hard Drive' is not getting detected in system BIOS; please restore BIOS defaults
- To restore BIOS defaults, tap < F9 >
- Tap < F10 > to save settings and exit
- Restart the laptop and repeat steps to access BIOS and check the status of 'Fixed HDD' again;
- If 'Hard Drive' is now detected, please run 'Hardware Diagnostics' on the laptop
- If no 'Hard Drive' is detected, it indicates a hardware issue and may need part replacement
Note: The illustration above is only for reference and may not be applicable for your computer.

2. Drain out the residual power:
- Power off your computer
- Please remove the AC adapter and battery of your computer
- Press and hold the power button of your computer for 10-15 seconds to drain out the residual power
- Release the power button
- Insert the battery in and connect the AC adapter
- Try powering on the computer and re-check

Hope this helps. Do reply if you have any further questions. I would be glad to assist.

1) Blank screen, blinking cursor means the hard drive is found, but is looking for the boot sector on it.

I have had the same problem on the same laptop in the past.

All I did, was use a windows repair CD you can make them online or you might have one that came with your computer, you find a way to boot into a command prompt via the repair CD and you do the following.  Depending on your case, you probably shouldn't just run all of these, but you should understand that they may help.  For me I just did fixboot and fixmbr and I was back up and running.  Do your research, but this is a good resource for the type of stuff you'll need to do to solve your situation.  It might be more simple though you dont always have to bix your master boot record and usually it's a last case scenario, but if your getting the blinking cursor.....Sometime it's a do or die.  I rather lose all my data and still have a working computer.  It's up to you to do your research and decide.  :)
