XPS M1330 5300:0119 errors
Hi,
I was preparing my exams when my laptop started to fail displaying correctly things on screen; I use my laptop only for basic things, not gaming or other demanding tasks. I bought it on June 2008.
Bios is uptodate, so are the drivers of the nvidia 8400-GS card. The diagonistic tools say that the memory tests fail, with 5300:0119 errors, quite famous now on google.
According to you, what is the best for me to do :
- replace the card via dell (out of garantee)?
- or change the laptop since it seems that this problem is frequent?
I am very frustraded because it seems that whether you take care of your dell laptop or not does not change the deal. And of course, I can't prove anything, except that I am sure to not have misused the laptop.

The video chip is indeed faulty - common for the nVIdia 8400 and 8600. There's a 1-year warranty extension that will cover a replacement of the mainboard (there's no separate video card - the mainboard needs replacement.

Thanks.
I am trying to reach dell's hotline, as requested.
What are the terms of the extended warranty? I have bought my laptop in France, but now live in Australia.
Thanks

Did you inform Dell about that?
In any case... information in the thread ejn64 provided the URL for, states...
You'll need to contact tech support, to find out if your card is still covered?
But I suspect that'll depend on how long ago you purchased the laptop?

Hi all,
Thank you for your help. A technician will come and change the motherboard.
Can somebody (dell?) confirm me that I will not have the problem again? I mean : is the problem fixed by changing the motherboard, or is it just the same motherboard and the same GPU?
Thanks

nVidia's claim is that they fixed the later production chips, which should be on the replacement board.

I bought a dell product, not a dell product with an nvidia product : it is the responsability of dell to check this replacement.
It is the same than with your washing machine : you don't care if the screw have been made by provider X or provider Y, or if they have been correctly designed.
So this answer is not enough for me. Sorry.

Greeting from Russia, Saint-Petersburg!
I've really doubted whether I should write in this thread or create a new one.
With my LapTop (Dell M 1330 XPS) happened the same problem as described above. I bought it at 25 November 2008 in one of the Russian retail shop.
Today I made several phone calls to Russian Support center but they refused to provide me the warranty services.
They explained me it by several reasons:
I tried to fill the form to extend the warranty by the link http://support.euro.dell.com/support/topics/topic.aspx/emea/shared/support/my_systems_info/en/warranty_upgrade_request?c
(I cut the end of the link where my service tag was provided)
But each time I tried to send the request I received the message that the service was currently unavailable and request to try again later.
I hope you can advise me how to receive the reasonable support about the extension of the warranty.
It's really frustrating to know that the warranty has been extended by Dell and the same time to be rejected to receive any technical support in my country.
Looking forward to receive your kindly assistance.
Best regards!
Masha

Hi Masha
I am a simple user. I do not know how to help; the best would be to add your question there :
http://en.community.dell.com/blogs/direct2dell/archive/2008/09/12/nvidia-gpu-update-limited-warranty-enhancement-details.aspx
or to contact directly the author of the post.
