XPS M1730 Durability Scare

Well I have to say I was worried when I woke up and my new closed XPS M1730 fell off my bed 19 inches off the carpet floor landing spine first. I literally had a heart attack thinking what damage has come to my notebook's spine because of my clumsy stupidity...nobody wants that on their XPS gaming notebook even for a computer neat freak who likes to keep his notebook in perfection.

Surprisingly when I picked it up and looked at it there were no cracks or abrasions from it the spine was perfectly aligned and there were no scratches....except for the molding mark that was always there when I opened it up from the box.

I know that Dell does severe durability testing on notebooks to prove a point that they put more damage on them then what we will do in its lifetime, but I admit I was scared my 5,000 dollar laptop would have been my ultimate nightmare if it broke.

What do you think, did I worry over nothing?

UPDATE

I cant stop worry over the fact that this happened... does any body have any information on the durability rate is on the DEL XPS M1730?

if the system works fine and all appears well then i would be relieved myself. It appears that you have done no damage to the system...
I would not make a habit of this but take heart that all is well.....

Ok...but since we are on the subject, just in case if I do need to replace parts of the Laptops shell that are cracked or broken over time (or caused by the acts of god), can you pay to have areas like the spine or shell replaced? And if so where on there website do I go to do that?

If you purchased the "CompleteCare" option with the laptop, then an event like this should be covered.

CompleteCare is meant to cover unintentional stupidiity that causes severe system damage, such as accidently tipping a can of pop over next to the machine, and it dumping straight into the keyboard and running down inside all over the components. Accidently dropping it is also likely covered. Check the fine print of the CompleteCare program.

If covered, you may be able to call Dell and send it in and they may inspect it for any internal cracking of the frame.

If it's not covered, take some antacid for your heartburn and try not to worry about what hidden hairline cracks might be lurking that will eventually split the thing in half just sitting on your desk. ;-)

Well if you mean by a 3 year warranty yes...but i don't know if that counts as "Complete Care." I'll check to make sure. But don't they do computer shell replacements for a standard fee(depending on the damage) if I don't have "Complete Care"? Cause I don't mind if I have to pay to repair a computer.

Besides from what I heard on the plastic they use in most computers is impact resistant. Its made of polycarbonate and whatever plastic they use, but it can still break if it takes immense torture. Thing is I don't know how bad the damage is from the inside as from what I see on the outside except for maybe a few unnoticeable scratches.

Then again I'm no longer worried about it. If anything happens to it I can call dell and tell them I'm willing to pay a substantial fee to replace or fix damaged areas on my computer over time anyways...regardless from this little mishap.
