XPS1530 Screen Not Working
I've had a Dell XPS 1530 since February 2009 and it's worked perfectly ever since until now. I recently got back from university to find that the screen refuses to turn on. The system goes through the usual boot routine when I turn it on including the little beep and the HD starting up but then nothing. I'm left with a blank screen and I can do nothing although I can hear the HD whirring away and the system is obviously working fine. At first I thought it might be the brightness settings or the LCD/CRT option so I tried to change both of these to no avail, I still just get the blank screen and nothing more. This first occurred on Saturday afternoon although for some reason the laptop started fine on the Sunday afternoon with the screen displaying and no problems whatsoever. Then this morning it had reverted back to displaying nothing.
Anyone had this problem or know what it might be? It seems strange to me that it wasn't working on Saturday but then came back to life on the Sunday and now is dead again today. Would this definitely be a screen problem or could it be something else in the system? Furthermore if it is a screen problem does anyone know what Dell screens would be suitable for replacing it with (I'm out of warranty).

First thing to check is to see if there is a good image on an external monitor. If there is, it may be the display panel -- if not, it's a faulty video chip.

I tried to get it to output onto my HDTV using a HDMI cable but I'm not even getting a signal. Which is all very weird after it coming to life on Sunday only to die again. If the graphics card had gone wouldn't common sense rule out the possibility of it returning to life for only one time before returning to a blank screen again? :emotion-7:
Although after a bit of searching on eBay I've come across many companies offering repairs stating the following:
This is exactly the problem I'm having with my laptop now,

I'm not sure where you found that information, but it's not correct. Yes, the video chips in these systems are faulty - but the fault has nothing to do with causing or arising from overheating. They were not properly designed.
