BSOD Recovery

Hi All

My old Inspiron24-7459 running win 10 has BSOD and i can no longer get to the home screen.

Problem started with lock ups after a few minutes but was able to get to safe mode but no obvious problems.

Have done system restore and then reset and problem seemed to be sorted until I tried to get intel rst working and then permanent BSOD.

Have tried dell support assist recovery and reset from USB with no hardware software issues reported but still BSOD. Tried microsoft media creation with reset/ recovery option  not available.

Trying to get command prompt via usb boot but command line either mis typed or not letting me go further.

Think I am running out of options so any advice v. welcome.

Many thanks

L and B

You could try removing or rolling back the Intel RST driver, since the BSOD started after trying to get it working. If Safe Mode is still accessible, check the storage/controller drivers there and uninstall or roll back the recent RST change.

If you can’t get into Safe Mode, boot from the Windows USB and use Command Prompt to run sfc /scannow and chkdsk against the Windows installation. It may also be worth checking the exact BSOD stop code, as that could help identify whether the issue is the RST driver, Windows files, or something else.

Since the hardware diagnostics are passing, I’d focus on the storage driver and Windows installation first.

@Adam-F0x Hi

Many thanks for your response. I have since reset the PC and all was OK until windows updated. NO BSOD but lock up after 5 minutes. No sign of the ssd other than in BIOS and no sign of Intel RST. Have noted BIOS update critical but concerned to update update while lock up occurring. Tried Intel and Dell support but as it is old PC they have tried basics but do not want further involvement.

Not worried about saving anything so was going to reset again, cancel updates, and if stable sort BIOS and try further steps.

Any thoughts/advice welcome before I reset.
