16:10 VS. 16:9

I'm really confused by the 16:9 vs. the 16:10 aspect ratios. It's my understanding that my monitor, the Dell 2007WFP, displays widescreen content in a 16:10 aspect ratio, however most videos are in a 16:9 aspect ratio. This creates a problem when viewing widescreen content over an analog connection (such as s-video) as the monitor stretches 16:9 content to 16:10, is there anyway to fix this? It's not a big problem when playing DVDs on my computer because it adjusts itself, but it doesn't adjust for external DVD players or things like the PS2.

I've not tried this with an s-video connection, but you could go to OSD / Display Settings / Wide Mode and select 1:1.

I haven't received my 2007WFP yet but what are the scaling modes available?
The two obvious ones to me are 1:1 and full stretch.

The only problem is the video then goes to a very small 480i signal. It turns a 20-inch monitor into about a 10-inch monitor.

1:1, 4:3 and "Fill".

You won't notice that it's stretching it out of aspect, so I wouldn't worry if I were you.

Yeah, stretching from 16:9 to 16:10 really isn't a big deal, I was really just curious if there was a solution.

I hooked up the 2007FWP to my DVD player today via DVI. (Yes, some DVD players have DVI-D/HDMI outputs)

Looked slightly stretched out vertically. But when I changed the mode to Multimedia, it fixed things. So there.

But this is Rev. A00 I got. Maybe the Rev.A02 will fix all of this. Let's hope.

I have DVD player with HDMI output so I connect it to 2007wfp via DVI input (720p). I was able to eliminate vertical stretching by switching widescreen mode (OSD/Display Settings/Wide Mode) from “Fill” to “4:3”.
