17 in. lcd image size
I recently installed a dell 17 in. lcd monitor on my dim. 4500. Now on IE, Firefox, Excel, and word, my image only fills up about 2/3 of the screen. I've set the resolution as the paperwork said, and even upgraded my video card. I have set the resolution as low as it will go, and then I get a low quality image. Can anybody out there PLEASE help me.
THANKS

17 inch LCD's native resolutions is 1280x1024 and nothing else.
60 Hz
32 bit color
You can move your mouse arrow over to the edge of IE and two Arrows will appear. When you see the two pointed arrows, push down on the left mouse button and drag the edge of IE towards the end of the screen...Try it

I do have my resolution set on 1280 x 1040 60htz. When I drag the edges of IE the window moves to the edge of the screen, but the images stay over on the left side.

After dragging the left edge ( You must see the double arrow first, than drag the edge over) of IE, did you go over to the right side of IE and drag that edge to the right side, which expands IE ? Perhaps you need a friend to come over who has a computer to assist you or better still, go to the book store and they have books on windows that you can purchase. Lots of information about how to do things. Good luck.
Also, you did not have to list my spec's on the first reply as you did. Not necessary. We list our spec's in order to give as much information to someone to assist us, if needed.

I am not a complete novice to Windows, being on my third windows PC. I did have my brother who builds computers check it out, and he said he had no idea what my problem was. My problem is not knowing how to maximize a window, or dragging the edge of the window. My problem is I am left with the left side of my screen containing an image and the right one-third being completely blue. I thought somebody out there would be able to tell me more than DELL'S techs did when they suggested I do a complete format.
Thanks

Before we start again....What happens when you move the mouse pointer to one side of IE ( Still showing a smaller box ) ? Do you see the mouse pointer turn into two arrows pointing opposite each other ? Holding down the left mouse button when you see the double arrow, can you drag that side of IE to the opposite side of the screen, enlarging it to fill at least that side of your monitor ? Can you do the same with the other side as well ? Or are you saying that when you drag that part of IE, the entire IE box moves, but does not enlarge ?
Let us start from scratch.....Uninstall the video driver thru Add/Remove and reboot the system. Use the driver cleaner linked below and clean out the old driver completely. Reboot the system. Now, install the video card driver, reboot and, now go into Display Properties again and reset the resolution to 1280x1024. Now click on IE. If IE is still too small, move the mouse button over to one side of the smaller IE box until you see the double arrow, push down and hold the left mouse button and drag IE to one side and than let go of the mouse button. Do the same with the other sides of IE that is still not filling up the entire screen. Does this work for you ? It should, but if it does not, than I'm at a loss. By this time I would just bit the bullet and re-install windows from scratch, unless someone else knows more than me on this problem you are having. ( By the way....In the upper right hand corner of IE you will see three boxes. The middle box is for enlarging the IE window, and the (-) sign you see is for making the window smaller, but this is only temporary )
Keep us informed....
Tell us about your system as I have done below. The computer model ( Dim 2400 or 4700 etc ) The video card you have installed, etc

Very sorry for the death in Iraq......
I'm now at a loss as to the problem and if tech support cannot assist, than maybe a reformat and re-install of windows is in order.
