1704 Ultrasharp LCD

When my LCD loads, I get the following message: "Cannot Display this Video Mode." I am connecting the LCD with the DVI cables; yet, it continues to work fine. I don't have the black screen like other people with this type of problem do. I am using the ATI Radeon 128mb x300 video card. Is there something I have to do in the video properties to correct this problem? Am I even displaying in "Digital Mode" to begin with? Much thanks in advance!

I have exactly the same monitor and video card with exactly the same problem. I reinstalled the video drivers, no change. Dell sent a new video card (ATI x300) which I knew wouldn't solve anything...and it didn't. Now they want to replace the motherboard, which I guess I'll let them do but don't see it working either. Still searching these posts for answers. The only workaround I've found (to get into the BIOS setup) is to switch to analog mode temporarily by pressing the '-' button on the monitor, or attaching the analog cable and removing the digial cable, which seems stupid.

I have the exact same problem. I noticed that when I connect the analog cable and press the minus sign on the monitor the self test box shows "digital'. When i connect the digital cable and press the minus button on the monitor the self test box shows ' analog". Therefore, I think the error message is just a glitch to be ignored. The message is probably telling you that it is displaying a digital signal and cannot display analog as the self test box is showing.   I look for Dell to release a new driver soon if i were a betting man. Good luck.

Dell seems to have finally fixed the problem. You need to reinstall the MONITOR driver. Go to the downloads page, enter your tag number, and select "monitor" as the type. You need to download and run the one for the 1704FPT, r78777.exe. Problem seems to have gone away!

I know theres a issue with DVI connections as well using ATI x300 card and dell 15/17/19/20 trying to get video in bios or on boot-up with dvi using this card. only work around for this at the time being is to toggle monitor menu and or cables to VGA when wanting dvi video in bios. until updated video/bios versions come out.
Hope this helps.
