1704fpt - extra bright at top and bottom?

I just purchased a dell 1704fpt. I'm very happy with the image quality and overall performance of this monitor etc. The one thing that concerns me, however, is that whenever there is a black screen (ex. when the operating system is booting, playing a widescreen movie etc.), the very top and very bottom of the moinitor seem "not-so-black," or in other words, a lot brighter than they should be. Is there something wrong with the monitor or should this be expected? Is there a way to fix it?
